On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia that it has won a bid to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games at a mountain resort in the $500bn Neom project.
The 2029 Asian Winter Games will be hosted at TROJENA, which is a part of the Neom project.
According to the project website, the TROJENA development is expected to be completed in 2026, and it will offer a man-made freshwater lake and a nature reserve, and outdoor skiing.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal, the Saudi sports minister, said on Twitter that with the unlimited support by the HRH Crown Prince & Saudi leadership to the sports sector, we are proud to announce we have won the bid to host Asian Winter Games TROJENA2029 as the first country in west Asia.
The CEO of Neom, Nadhmi al-Nasr, said Trojena would have a suitable infrastructure to create the winter atmosphere in the heart of the desert, to make this Winter Games an unprecedented global event.
Neom city is the most ambitious project of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which is under the kingdom’s Vision 2030 development plan. This project is made to reduce reliance on oil and transform the economy by developing sports.
Neom is a 26,500 sq km high-tech development on the Red Sea, which will include industrial and logistics areas and a zero-carbon city, The Line.
